Day 1: Maumere – Moni

Maumere will be the starting point on your overland tour to Flores Island. Located around 100 km from Moni, the city is famous for its tenun ikat. It is a bundle of woven fabrics made by local people and the production of each sheet usually takes months. A professional and friendly driver will accompany you during the trip and you will enjoy your trip to Moni on a cozy vehicle. The trip will have several stops, including Wuring Village.

It is a traditional fisherman village where the people catch fishes simply by using conventional methods for the continuity of the ecosystem. Then, you will head to Sikka Village to visit the first colony of Portuguese in Flores. The long history of Portuguese colonization can still be seen in the way of life of the villagers. Paga Beach with its crystal-clear waters and jaw-dropping views will be your next destination and a delicious lunch is served there, After spending a great time on the beach, the driver will take you to Moni and stay overnight in the village.

Day 2: Moni – Riung

The second day of your tour to Flores will start very early in the morning, at about 4 am to visit Kelimutu Island. We need to go in the early morning as the long trek you have to take to reach the mountain summit. Hence, make sure to prepare your stamina well before starting the tour. Arriving at Kelimutu Volcano, we can enjoy the breathtaking views of Kelimutu Lake. It is a unique lake with 3 different wonderful colors that often change unpredictably.

Sometimes, the colors of the lake appear to be black, brown, and turquoise but they often unexpectedly change to green, black, and blue. Once you have been satisfied with the tour to the amazing lake, the driver will bring you to Wologai Village. It is a traditional village in Flores that has been around for about 800 years. Being inhabited by Lio Tribe, you will be fascinated by the old cultures held by local people as well as their traditional way of life. Stopping a while for lunch in Ende, your next destination is Nangapenda.

This Blue Stone Beach offers awesome sceneries that you hardly find in other places. Enjoy great water attractions on the beach just before you heading to Riung to find a hotel for staying overnight.

Day 3: Riung 17 Islands

For the third day of the tour, you will go to Riung, the 17 Island by taking a local wooden boat. The crystal clear water surrounding the island is shallow. When the weather is nice you can see that the water surface is almost as flat as a pancake. The boat will take you further to Rotung Island, the main island of the region. Rotung Island is mainly popular for its snorkeling spot. Enjoy the beauty of the coastline of Flores while having lunch with a menu consists of grilled fish and other local foods served on the boat.

The journey will continue to Kalong Island after that. Exploring the island allows you to enjoy a rare phenomenon where thousands of bats flying out of mangrove trees grow all over the island. You will be driven to your hotel on Riung Island to stay that night.

Day 4: Riung Marine Park– Bajawa

The first destination on the fourth day of the overland tour to Flores Island is So’a. The driver will take you to this popular tourist destination right just after breakfast at your hotel. So’a is a natural hot spring located on the slope of Mount Inerie. Soaking your body in the natural hot water coming from Inerie Mountain will be a nice treat after spending days exploring tourist spots around Flores.

The natural hot water of So’a will help you relieve strain on your muscles, relaxing your body and soul. After visiting the hot spring, you will check in your hotel in Bajawa. Then, the tour continues to Bena Village. It is a traditional village located in Bajawa that will allow you to see the cultural life and unique traditions of local people. Interact with the villagers will provide you with a clearer picture of how they live in the same traditional ways as their ancestors among modernity.

Day 5: Bajawa -Ruteng City

Start at about 8 am, the fifth day of the Flores Island tour will take you to Aimere Village. This is another traditional village on Flores Island that is well known for its Arak. It is a local alcoholic drink made by villagers with palm juice as the main ingredient. This alcoholic drink is a treat that tourists can taste when they are visiting Aimere Village. The alcohol substance of the arak is about 40% to 60%. Just imagine yourself sipping the unique taste of this local wine while enjoying the natural beauty of the village along with local people.

Ranamese Lake will be your next destination after Aimere Village. It is a wonderful cater lake located in the middle of a tropical forest. Get another excitement from the natural beauty of Flores Island by visiting Tepo Rakot before heading to your hotel in Ruteng. In Tepo Rakot, you will be amazed by the spectacular views of greeny rice terrace fields that you can find all around the village. The driver will take you to Liang Bua that resemblances a hobbit cave.

Pu’u Village in Ruteng will be the next destination, it is a traditional village of Manggarai people, one of the original tribes of Flores Island. You will get a chance to buy fine handicrafts made by local people in a traditional market before returning to your hotel in Ruteng.

Day 6: Ruteng – Denge

The driver will pick you up at your hotel in Ruteng at 7 am to visit Cancar Village. Here, you will be presented with jaw-dropping views of rice fields that have an unusual round shape. The unique shape of the green rice fields looks like a big web spider. Then, you will go directly to Denge Village for an overnight stay that needs 3 or 4 hours driving by car from Cancar Village. On your way to Denge Village, the driver will stop by at Dintor, a beautiful beach with awesome black sands for relaxing. 

Day 7: Denge Village – Trekking Wae Rebo

You will need to walk on a trekking path from Denge to reach Wae Rebo Village. The trekking to the traditional village itself usually takes about 3 to 4 hours to complete. Visiting Wae Rebo will make it possible for you to witness the traditional life of people who live in the village. Here, you will stay a night in the traditional house in Wae Rebo and interact with local people directly.

Day 8: Wae Rebo Village – Denge Village – Labuan Bajo

Start the last day of your tour to Flores by having breakfast with traditional cuisines of people in Wae Rebo. After breakfast, you will walk down Denge Village and go directly to Lembor by car. Here, you will see other breathtaking sceneries of green rice fields before heading to Labuan Bajo to end the tour.
